Giveaway Time

I have secretly been working on getting this blog up and running for the last two months.  Now that I have several posts, I feel comfortable sharing it with the world!

Before I became a mom of twins, I spent my days teaching children.  My favorite part of teaching was sharing stories with my students.  I loved it when I would stumble across a good story that would captivate my students' attention. Even though I am no longer teaching, I still enjoy reading children's literature. My goal for this blog is to share quality children's literature with parents, teachers and kids!

Not only do I want to share some good books with you, but I also want to lend a helping hand to parents and teachers.  When I was teaching, I always told parents how important it was they carve out some time in their day to read aloud to their child.  However, I never had the time to teach parents how to aid their child's understanding of the story.  On this blog,  I will list questions you can ask your child to enhance their comprehension.

Since this is my first "live" post, I wanted to start it off right!  So, I am having a give away!  I am going to give away a copy of this year's Caldecott Honor Book Interrupting Chicken!

To enter to win you need to do the following:
*Leave a comment telling me your favorite children's book!

The winner will be selected on Thursday, February 24th by random selection using Random.org.  Be sure to check back on February 25th to see who the winner is!

* You must have a screen name that is unique.  If everyone comments as anonymous, I will not know who the winner is!

  1. As a professed Bibliophile in dire need of a 12-step program, this is a hard choice. Since I just taught a lesson with this book and shared my passion about this book with my students, I would have to say it's Chicken Sunday by Patricia Polacco.

  2. Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner! Spent my entire third grade year working through the series. Still can place myself on the carpet at circle time while Mrs.Falkner read aloud!

  3. Our favorite NEW book (we have many favorite books, I mean, there are just soooooo many books to love!) is Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie by Joel Stewart. It just makes us laugh. He has a second follow up book, Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie on the Road.
I suppose it makes it even funnier when you read it with a British accent, like we do. :)

  4. My favorite book to read to the kids is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." This line from the book is so true. I Started reading this to Coltin almost nine years ago and now I get to read it to him and Claire!

  5. It has been a long time since I have read to children but Wind in the Willows comes to mind. I don't think a childhood is complete without this one. Great blog and I am enjoying it very much.

  7. My favorite read aloud to kids is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. I love the adventures the poor rabbit goes through to get back to his loved ones!

  8. These seem to be some of my favorites (right now. I could never narrow to one.

My favorite for babies/toddlers is Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton. Pictures and the song always keep them enthralled!

For age 3-5, I love "Yo! Yes?" by Chris Raschka. Easy for kids this age to read along and learn about friendship.

And also "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin Jr. This helped all my children learn their letters!!
